As Patron of the International Festival of the Sea since 1998, I have been delighted by the success of this unique event which is such a broad celebration of the sea.
The Princess Royal
The 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 2005 provided the inspiration for hundreds of celebrations and special events across the United Kingdom under the SeaBritain 2005 banner for a national Year of the Sea. These celebrations include Europe's largest maritime extravaganza, the International Festival of the Sea (IFOS) in Portsmouth at which the Polar Quest Expedition mounted an Exhibition.
On the opening day, HRH Princess Royal and the First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy, Admiral Sir Alan West visited the Polar Quest exhibition to meet with team members.
The Polar Quest Expedition was featured in the Official IFOS Souvenir Brochure 2005 with over 150,000 visitors to the exhibition during the 4-day festival. The exhibition included a range of information boards, equipment and clothing and an interactive photo booth enabling visitors to be photographed in polar clothing.
