COMMUNICATIONS

No doubt the explorers of 2015, if there is anything left to explore, will carry pocket wireless telephones, fitted with wireless telescopes.

INTRODUCTION
Time Zone Used Throughout Expedition: ZULU (GMT)
In order to provide guidelines for the safe execution of the project, and in the event of an emergency clear procedures to be followed, the Safety and Emergency Plan (SEP) has been produced to provide a single safety reference for all elements of the expedition. It sets out to provide the framework under which activities in the Polar Regions will be conducted and details procedures to be followed in the event of a non-emergency and emergency situation. The SEP consists of the following:
Communications Plan (complan) -
The COMPLAN sets out to provide administrative, media and life safety communications service to the polar team. The diverse communications required to support the expedition require a high degree of co-ordination by all involved in order to prevent confusion and risk. The COMPLAN outlines the systems to be utilised, reporting schedules to be adopted and formats to be used for the passage of information between all interested parties.
Safety Flow Chart (SFC) -
The SFC provides a systematic flow of actions to be undertaken by Base Camp BC throughout the communications cycles and provides guidance on when and who to notify in the event of no communications being established between the Ice Party, Base Camp and Rear Link Detachment.
Standard operating Procedures (SOPs) -
In order to minimise the degree of risk the polar team are exposed a number of SOPs have been set.
communications Manager -
Communications for the Polar Quest Expedition are being managed by Warrant Officer Nick Day of the Royal Marines. To discuss communications with the Polar Quest team visit the Polar Quest Forum.
