Sgt Rob McIntyre joined the Royal Marines in 1989. Having served most of his time with 40 Commando Royal Marines he has seen operational service all over the World. A competitive sportsman he has represented the Navy at Rugby and Great Britain at Dragon Boating in the 1997 European Championships in Germany.

A qualified Physical Training Instructor he is currently serving at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines with responsibilities for the training of Physical Training Instructors and implementation of fitness training within the Royal Marines. A qualified sports rehabilitation therapist he has worked with injured trainees rehabilitating them back to full fitness.

In August of 2005 Rob spent time with the GB Rugby League Squad at their Training Camp in Bath organising and leading team working sessions.  This was such a success that he has been invited to join them at a Training Camp in Manchester to support them in preparing for the Tri Nations Tournament against New Zealand and Australia.

Rob has organised and lead several expeditions across the globe, including mountaineering and climbing expeditions to the Italian Dolomites, the Red Rocks in Nevada and a twenty strong expedition to climb continental America's highest Mountain, Mt Whitney. A keen skier he led a cross country skiing expedition to Northern California

Warrant Officer Nick Day joined the Royal Marines in 1985 and specialised as a communicator in 1989.  Since that time I have gained experience in communicating for the Military in many parts of the Globe from Snow holes in Norway to the depths of the Malasian Jungle.  In 2000 I turned my hand at Civilian Expeditions and provided communication solutions to Expeds in the North and South Poles, Everest and various Ocean rowing attempts to include Atlantic, Pacific and Indian.

Marine Matthew Vivian joined the Royal Marines at the age of 19 in February 2000 and after completing Commando training he joined 40 Commando Royal Marines based in Taunton . Since then he has deployed to various countries and is now serving as a Heavy Weapons Specialist with 42 Commando Royal Marines in Plymouth.  Matthew has completed a variety of mountain training exercises from the Highlands of Scotland to the ranges of Pickle Meadows in the USA, although a novice to Polar exploration.

Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Andy Brown joined the Royal Navy in 1999 after working as an NHS doctor for 18 months, and went straight to Lympstone to undergo Commando training. After passing the All Arms Commando Course and a brief spell at Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth, his first job was as Medical Officer to 42 Commando Royal Marines, serving in The Mediterranean, Ukraine , Albania , Sierra Leone , Northern Ireland , Norway and the USA . He re-entered hospital practice in 2002, qualified as a GP in 2004, and now works in North Devon as Officer Commanding Medical Squadron, the Royal Marines deployable surgical facility.

During his GP training in Plymouth , Andy was a member of the successful Royal Navy Everest North Ridge Expedition in 2003. He has completed the gruelling Lympstone to Poole race twice, his team finishing second last year, and the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon 3 times. A keen climber, skier and winter mountaineer, he also keeps fairly unproductive bees and is learning to paraglide. His fitness programme is helped by having to keep a 1 year old greyhound puppy exercised every day

Craig joined the Royal Marines in January 2004 at the age of twenty six. He found training both thoroughly enjoyable and challenging and was extremely honoured to having been awarded the Kings Badge in addition to gaining the coveted Green Beret.

Craig started working life in the Merchant Navy as an engineering officer cadet before returning to dry land as an apprentice welder / fabricator. He eventually studied Real Estate Management for four years, finishing at the University of Paisley , whilst working part and full time periods as a landscaper and welder. He then travelled to Holland and America where he stayed for some two and a half years working in the ski resorts of Breckenridge and Vail in Colorado as a snowboard instructor and lift operator / maintenance helper. He spent a total of three winters and two summers in the mountains before returning to join the Royal Marines.


Having passed out from recruit training in October 2004 Craig was drafted to 45 Commando based at Arbroath in Scotland . He has since undertaken several mountain training packages and has been appointed troop radio operator. Craig has also taken part in a joint naval exercise with the French and Italian marines in the Mediterranean and Sardinia .

Cadet Petty Officer Ben McDonald joined the Bexley and Lewisham Unit of the Sea Cadet Corps in 2000. In the past five years he has had many great experiences in the cadets and has represented his unit at rowing at cadet national level coming 3rd two years in a row and at expedition training at London area competitions. Within the cadets he has also been able to yacht and dingy sail and has gained a silver Duke of Edinburgh 's award and the BTEC Cadet Vocational Qualification.

In 2004 he gained the rank of Petty Officer Cadet the highest rank in the Sea Cadet Corps. Ben wishes to join the Royal Marines as an officer on completion of his A-levels at Beths Grammar School .

Leading Medical Assistant Phil Towers joined the Royal Navy as a direct entry Commando Medical Assistant in 2001, after two years studying for a Diploma in Public Services.  After medical training he was posted to HMS Chatham, the flag ship for Standing Naval Fleet Mediterranean, where he undertook exercises in Italy, Crete and Turkey.  Phil then joined the Surgical Assessment Unit at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth during which he gained some valued practical ‘hands-on’ experience with patients suffering from a variety of ailments.

After a short tour with the Surgical Support Team providing medical support to the Royal Marines, Phil joined the medical staff of HMS Neptune, on the west coast of Scotland.  During this tour Phil undertook several climbing expeditions, competed in the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Ski Championships in the French Alps and joined the Neptune Field Gun Team.

Joining the Medical Centre at the Commando Training Centre Phil trained hard and successfully gained his Commando Dagger after completing the arduous All Arms Commando Course.  He soon saw himself serving with 3 Commando Brigade and joining a major exercise in the California that included skiing in Nevada and climbing in Los Vegas. 

Phil is a keen outdoor enthusiast and when he is not deployed with 3 Commando Brigade he enjoys rock, snow and ice climbing, mountain biking and kite boarding.

Corporal Ross Kane joined the Royal Marines in 1997 and completed commando training with distinction, receiving the Kings Badge and Physical Training medal.  His first draft saw him with Commachio Group based in Scotland and was soon identified for early promotion.  During his time with Commachio Group he has completed a variety of exercises and operations throughout the globe and qualified as a Jungle Warfare Instructor.

In 2001 he succsefully passed the Royal Marines Junior Command Course, achieving a distinguished pass, and was promoted to Corporal.  Returning to Scotland he was appointed as a Team Commander for the Fleet Standby Rifle Troop and led a variety of counter maritime terrorist operations and exercises in Dubai, Bahrain, Kenya and Oman (including Op Veritas).

In early 2002 Ross qualified as a Physical Training Instructor and passed the course as top student.  He remained at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre as a recruit physical training instructor and later as leader for the Adventure Training Section with responsibility for organising and delivering adventure packages.  Ross had completed several expeditions during his career that include the Royal Navy Everest NE Ridge Expedition of 2003

Before Ross joined up he lived in Bordeaux, France where he trained as a beach lifeguard with the Sapeurs Pompiers (the French Fire Brigade) and worked the 1996 season on various beaches in SW France. Ross also spent a brief spell as a season grape harvesting for a Chateau outside Bordeaux.

Ross enjoys climbing, surfing, canoeing/kayaking, travel, Latin American dancing and wine and is marred to Catherine.
